The Old Princely Court complex
Ancient political and administrative center of Wallachia. It contains the most significant medieval buildings (15th – 18th centuries) of nowadays capital. It was built during the reign of Vlad the Impaler, better known as Dracula, and represents both a fort and the Court.
Cotroceni Palace
Built in 1893 by the French architect Paul Gottereau. It was designed as the permanent residence of Prince Ferdinand. It is placed in the middle of a splendide garden and contains many representative elements of Romanian architecture. Today it holds also the residence of the Romanian Presidency.
House of the People / The Parliament Palace
Built between 1984-1989. As surface, it is the biggest administrative construction in Europe and the 2nd in the world, after the U.S. Pentagon, in Washington D.C, having an area of 330 000 square meters. As volume, the Guiness Book ranks this building as the third in the world.
Village Museum
The Village Museum, located on the lakeside of Herastrau Lake, was established by the Romanian sociologist Dimitrie Gusti in the year 1936, being one of the first etnographical museums in the world. It displays different kinds of rural constructions: houses, inns, stables, water mills, farms, roadside crosses, churches from all over Romania.
Romanian Peasant's Museum
It was declared in 1996 the European Museum of the Year because of its special type of museology and of the original poetics developped in relation to the object. Many of these merits owes to its late director - Horia Bernea, an outstanding representative of Romanian painting.
The museum is hosted by a historical monument building in new Romanian architectural style, recently renovated and which was formerly The Museum of the Communist Party.
