European Youth Winter Olympic Festival has started in Romania


TVR 1, TVR HD and the video portal of Romanian Television www.tvrplus.ro were broadcasting live the opening ceremony of the European Youth Winter Olympic Festival Committee (FOTE).

FOTE opening ceremony ended with a superb fireworks.

One of the most successful pop singers in Romania, Inna, hold a mini-concert.

15 athletes gave a demonstration of free-style skiing & snowboarding.

The opening ceremony ended and now follows a pop concert, with the band Sensor.

Haralambie Daniela Vasilache held the Olympic Oath on behalf of all athletes.

Rares Dumitrescu entered the arena with the Olympic flame. Michael Covaliu had the honor to light the official Olympic flame. It will be shiped in Poiana Brasov, where it will stay throughout the FOTE.

2nd Mountain Brigade of Sarmisegetuza in Brasov raised the Olympic flag  on the mast, after which they sang the Olympic anthem.
Four components of the ice hockey team Corona Brasov entered the arena  with the Olympic flag.

The Olympic flame reached the Olympic arena.

At 20:10, the Prime Minister of Romania, Victor Ponta opened the  Youth Olympic Winter Festival Committee. “It is a great honor to declare open the eleventh edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival,” said Ponta both in Romanian and in English.

At this point, President of the European Olympic Committee, Patrick Hickey, thanked all the officials who have contributed to this event.

CIO President, Jacques Rogge, thanked all forums that contributed to the Olympic movement and wished the young athletes to become models in sport and in life.

Mayor of Brasov, George Scripcaru, take a short speech, in which thanked to everyone who helped organize the most important sporting events in Romania, from the Universiade in 1981, to the volunari, to officials who contributed to the development of sports infrastructure zone.

The Romanian delegation concluded scrolling delegations at 7:57 p.m..

It started with Greece, scrolling delegations of 45 countries that will participate in the Festival of European Youth Olympic Winter.

At this point, the national anthem of Romania is being played in interpretation of Rebeca Neacşu and a young choir made ​​up of children and adolescents.

A few hours before the start of the ceremony, CIO chief, Jacques Rogge, said he was pleased with the event organization:
“I saw a good infrastructure and a beautiful region, only heard fine words from coaches. Athletes, coaches and trainers are happy with what they have found here. The sports basis  have a very good quality, foreign instructors were very impressed” Rogge said to the official website of the competition.

In turn, Octavian Morariu said that this event may be a step towards organizing a competition upper scale in Romania.

“I think FOTE will run very smoothly, there were many discussions about the organization that I was convinced we will overcome. I always had confidence in the people, the organizing committee, in all who have supported us, ministerial Committee,  government knowing that it is a huge effort. Of-course you must eventually want this but I think the world begins now, on the one hand to have an evidence of the size of such competitions, where the effort is huge , and also the world begins to understand that we have found an interesting experience with all you will need to capitalize on.

I am sure the way of organizing these competitions open doors to other competitions, this is our goal. Prove to the world that we can organize international sport competitions and thus we can ask to have competition, ” Octavian Morariu said, president of the Romanian Olympic Committee.
